My Chemical Black Parade quick review
My teen daughter asked me to listen to My Chemical Romance's "The Black Parade" in its entirety. I'm old. I backed into listening while doing some plaster work, but it pulled me in on one listen.
The opening tune is "The End", and it sounds VERY similar to the opening song of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust - "Five Years". I tend to absorb music first and lyrics much later, so I got off to a skeptical start. Its a dramatic batch of songs ala Ziggy Stardust, where the narrator dies in the first song and looks at his life from the beyond for the rest of the piece.
Long and short of it, I'm glad my teen like music that doesn't suck. This is worthwhile rock music. It even has a happy dramatic ending (video of that song above). There's a funny little hidden tune after the real close, but its kind of an afterthought. Its full of melodic, powerful music, emotive singing and some pretty heavy topics. Good stuff. I'm too old to get way into it, but glad to have it on my mp3 player.
