I just finished reading Anne Rice's "Called Out of Darkness", her memoir about her spiritual journey from her Catholic upbringing though atheism and back to Catholicism. In this book she makes the very strong and personal point that a turning point back to the Church for her was surrendering to God upon the realization that she would never know the answers to many deep questions.
This echoes my arrival at what I call Christian Agnosticism. I also have surrendered to the knowledge that I will never know the answers to most deep questions, including the nature of God. This seems like a fine logical distinction but it has huge implications for personal religious practice.
