A friend recommended this book to me. I was moved by it.
A modern Christian fable about a 'joe sixpack' in a deep depression who receives a direct communication from God to get him out of his rut. As is the case with any real relationship with God, it is deeply personal. Mack (the hero) spends a weekend conversing with God and confronting his traumatic past. Parts of it are theology, psychology, new age spirituality, humor, plot twist, character development and just good story telling. I give it two Big Buck thumbs up.
Of course any book as popular as this one with a personal slant on Christianity is going to take a beating from critics in fundamentalist and atheistic circles. This one has taken its hits for being heretical, false, dishonest, misleading, and I'm sure many other criticisms hardly worth my time to look into. It is really just a good read. Call it reality based spiritual fiction if you will.
