This has been in my car player off and on for a few months. I love most of it. I was unfamiliar with much of it until I picked this set up. In trying to figure out how I missed so much great, very popular music I looked back on my upbringing. I was born in 1963 and grew up in a white, rural (becoming suburban) town. The prime years for Stax was roughly 1961-early 70s. I missed out because of both age and culture. By the time I came of age this stuff was not on the radio. Neither the Top 40 stations I listened to when I was a 45 buyer, nor the rock stations when I switched over to buying albums. Any R&B that was absorbed by the rural white kids (like my older brother) was disco - post Stax. By the time I became a serious consumer of music, it was really a choice between various flavors of rock. R&B/Soul were not an option.
Still, it is not entirely a bad thing that I misseed it then because it gives me great stuff to enjoy right now.
