What's Christmas about for an Agnostic Christian?

I doubt you're curious, but I am. That's partially what Christmas is about - selfishness. Jesus was a baby when he was born, a very human baby. As such he had every right to make the day as much about him as possible. Babies are like that. If you do something for a person you love that tickles that selfish baby spot in them, you have found the Christmas Spirit.

My Christmas is about about tradition and change. The traditions from previous years morph into the behaviors for this year. Get another ornament or light fixture. Figure out how to perfect the menu. So, you f-ed up the gift selection for someone last year. You have a chance to do it better now.

A bit deeper, it ought to be about love. How do you translate the love you feel into the love you make. The ultimate gift from my God is the love I feel for others and the love they feel for me. How to react to it, and act on it is at the bottom of spirituality and (metaphorically) Christmas. In the Christmas tale, God gave the best of his big self to man. He gave up his boy for a few years. Thanks God, you rule.

I especially pondered the 3rd paragraph. Never thought of it like that, but now I do. Thanks for sharing that thinking...
